Mountain Transport Institute Ltd (MTI) of Castlegar, BC, and Marmicmon Integrated Marketing and Communications of Okanagan Falls, BC, have established a working relationship to facilitate the integration of foreign Professional Drivers into Canadian Trucking companies.

Marmicmon’s International Marketing Director, Professor Michael Patterson, is working with governments overseas to recruit experienced (minimum 5 years) Professional Drivers for migration to Canadian firms. Marmicmon are experts at the Canadian immigration processes and are working with carriers from across the country to help them fill their driving vacancies. Once carriers have interviewed and selected appropriate candidates, MTI then travels to their country and performs driver evaluations to measure the suitability of the candidate for the Canadian trucking environment. Any candidates whose skills are below the minimum standards are rejected from the program (until they can improve) and the balance of the drivers are then provided with Canadian training (this includes log book training, weights & measurements, pre-trip, air brakes, etc) in preparation for their arrival in Canada.

When the drivers arrive in Canada they are welcomed at MTI’s facilities in Castlegar for the balance of their training, licensing, medicals, etc. (criminal record searches are done prior to acceptance into the program) before they head to their employers. Marmicmon assists the recruits at this point with housing and getting established in their new communities ready to start work for their sponsoring carrier.

Marmicmon and MTI have partnered on this venture to help Canada’s trucking industry safely and efficiently access experienced overseas drivers without interrupting their daily business and ensuring the skills of the individuals actually match what’s on their resume.
